The stunning Holkham Hall is set in 25,000 acres on the North Norfolk Coast. Built in the 18th Century by Thomas Coke, Holkham Hall has remained the seat of the Earls of Leicester ever since.
From the incredible Marble Hall, through the State Rooms and down to the Old Kitchen, Holkham is a treasure to behold. From original Roman statues, paintings by the Old Masters, Royal Bedchambers right down to the copper pots and pans.
Extensive gardens were added in the mid 19th Century and are still very similar to the original plans. A large deer herd occupy the larger estate which even extends through woodland walks, right down to the shoreline. The deer herd make greta photographs and memories and look spectacular at any time of the year.
The vast majority of the Hall and gardens are accessible to wheelchair uses, the current Earl having installed a “stairclimber” to take manual and some electric wheelchairs up to the State Rooms. This has proved very popular to our guests with mobility challenges.
Holkham beach is opposite the North entrance and so makes for a great combined day out. This is extremely high on our day out recommendations from previous guests of Norfolk’s Hidden Gems properties.
The Estate has hosted a number of open air concerts since 2006. The concerts have proved very successful and will, hopefully, continue to be a feature in years to come. Check the dates of planned concerts to see if any are programmed for a stay with us.
The present Earl of Leicester is passionate about renewable energy. He and the estate management are green at heart. They are constantly striving to find new ways to make the Estate as green and self sufficient as possible.
The Earl and his family live in the Hall currently using it as a family home. This means that visitors are welcomed into a family space. The rich history of Holkham is evident and encourages visitors to get close to the treasures within.
Various cafes and restaurants within and on the estate offer a wide selection of refreshments and all the information relating to opening times and prices can be found on:
